Who we are
McLellan Master Plasterers and Roughcasting Specialists is Fraser McLellan, based in Renfrew. When you ring the number on this site you get Fraser, and the person who comes to look at the wall is the person who will be working on it.
The business does two things that are usually done by two different trades. Outside: roughcasting, dry dash, harling, smooth render, repairs to failed render, and new work on extensions, garages and garden walls. Inside: plastering and skimming, taking Artex and heavy texture flat, ceilings down and re-boarded, coving, and Venetian polished plaster.
Doing both is not a boast, it is practical. A house being re-dashed outside very often needs something doing inside, and having one firm for both means one conversation, one set of dates and nobody standing about waiting for somebody else to finish.
Every photograph here is a job we did, and the before shots are left in. A finished wall on its own tells you nothing; what it looked like the morning we turned up tells you everything.
No badges, no star ratings. Any trade can type that it is the finest in the west. A before and after photograph is harder to fake.
Venetian polished plaster
Trained at a Venetian plastering academy
Fraser trained in Venetian polished plaster at a plastering academy, which is a separate discipline from the rest of the list. It is a fine lime based plaster laid on in several very thin coats and burnished with a trowel until it has the depth of stone.
There are no finished photographs of that work on this site yet. Rather than fill the page with somebody else's wall, the page says so and asks you to get in touch, and the photograph on it is from the training itself.

The black vans with the house and the yellow lettering are ours. If you live round Renfrew there is a fair chance you have seen one parked outside a house with scaffold up on it.
A lot of our work comes from exactly that: somebody walking past a job, liking the finish and asking. If you have seen one of ours and want to know what the mix was, ring and ask.
