The walls in Renfrew

A large part of Renfrew's housing went up between the wars and in the two decades after the war: semis and short terraces, built in block or brick and finished in roughcast from new. That is the stock we spend most of our time on.

The thing about a town where most of the houses went up at roughly the same time is that most of the walls reach the end of their life at roughly the same time too. That is why one street can suddenly look like everybody has decided to do their house at once. They have not. The coats are simply the same age.

Nearer the river and out towards the newer developments the stock is different again, with more brick on show and more modern build ups behind the finish.

What we get called out for here

Re-dashing a whole house where the existing coat has gone patchy or been painted over. Gable only jobs, because the gable always goes first. Making good round new windows. And, increasingly, taking the dash off altogether and going to a smooth render, which changes the decade a house reads as.

Inside, it is the same housing stock and so it is the same list: Artex ceilings from the seventies and eighties, ceilings that have been filled once too often, and walls that have been papered so many times they will not take anything else.

Being local to the job

Being based here means we can come and look at a wall without it being an expedition, and it means we are back the next morning rather than fitting you around a long run.
