Work in Clydebank
Rebuilt stock
Clydebank lost an enormous amount of housing in the Blitz and a great deal of what stands now went up in the rebuilding that followed. That gives much of the town a fairly narrow band of construction age and a common set of wall types.
As everywhere else, houses built together reach the end of a coat together. A street where several houses are being done at once is not a coincidence.
Exposure and the weather
Sitting where it does, with open ground and the river, the exposed elevations here take a beating. West and south west facing gables are the ones we are usually called to first.
Driving rain finds the weak point in a coat, and once water is behind the render it travels. Black streaking running out of a crack is that happening.
Inside work
Ceilings and Artex, same as the rest of the post war stock, plus the tenement and flatted property where lath and plaster and high ceilings change the job.
We cover and skim textured ceilings rather than scraping them, and we tape live cracks before anything goes over them.
Before and after
A job of the kind we are describing

Pebble dash and bare stone to smooth cream render. Drag the handle to see the before.
Straight answers
Questions about work in Clydebank
Why does my gable always go before the front of the house?
It takes the driving rain, it usually has no overhang sheltering it and on an end terrace there is a whole elevation of it facing the weather.
Do you cross the water for jobs?
