Work in Bridge of Weir
Large older houses
Bridge of Weir has a lot of substantial Victorian and Edwardian property, built generously, with tall rooms and elevations that are simply bigger than the usual semi.
Scale changes this trade. A two storey villa elevation has to be finished to a wet edge in one run or a join will show across it, and that is a question of planning the day rather than of skill on the trowel.
Inside the older villas
High ceilings, lath and plaster, moulded cornice and arched openings. Where the cornice is good it stays and the new work runs into it; where a ceiling has let go it comes down and is re-boarded.
Hallways and stairwells in houses like these are the hardest rooms in the trade to make look flat, because the light runs the whole length of them.
The newer property
There is modern housing here too, and that is the ordinary work: render and dash on block, extensions to match, garden walls and repairs.
The villa with the arched window heads in our work section is a good example of where the two meet: a modern smooth render finish, but every opening cut and run by hand because of the shape of it.

Questions about work in Bridge of Weir
Can you work round original cornice and ceiling roses?
Yes. Where they are worth keeping they stay and the new finish is run into them.
A full elevation on a big villa, can that be done in one go?
It needs to be, or a join shows. That is a planning question and we will tell you how we would run it before we start.
