Plasterer & Roughcaster in Erskine

We leave each job the way we would expect it in our own homes

Erskine is unusual, and it matters to this trade: most of the town went up in a short burst, so whole estates share one build and one set of failure modes.

  • Roughcasting, dry dash and render
  • Plastering, ceilings and Artex removal
  • Ring and we will tell you straight if we come out this way

Work in Erskine

A town built mostly at once

Erskine expanded rapidly from the late sixties onwards as a new town development, and the result is street after street of houses built within a few years of each other, to a handful of house types, with the same wall build up behind the same finish.

That is genuinely useful. If we have done a house on your type a few streets over, we already know what is behind the finish, where the coat usually lets go first and what the gable does. Very little of it is a surprise.

What goes first here

Coats put on in the same decade reach the end together. Gables and exposed elevations first, then the rest. Where houses have had new windows in, the band round every opening is usually damaged and has often been patched with something that does not match.

A lot of the work here is therefore a full re-dash rather than a repair, because by the time one elevation has gone the others are not far behind.

Going to smooth render

Because the stock is uniform, changing to smooth render makes a bigger visual difference in Erskine than almost anywhere. One house in a row of identical dashed houses, taken to a flat white render with dark windows, no longer looks like the same house type.

That is the point for some people and exactly the wrong thing for others. Both are fine, it is worth deciding deliberately.

Straight answers

Questions about work in Erskine

Have you worked on my type of house before?

Quite possibly. Tell us the street and the type when you ring and we will tell you what we have found behind that finish elsewhere.

My neighbour had a patch done and it does not match. Can that be fixed?

Yes. The usual answer is to take the elevation into one finish rather than chase a match on a patch, because weathering is what you are trying to match and that cannot be bought.
