Work in Houston
Working on older village property
The older core of Houston is stone and traditional build, and a lot of it sits within a conservation area. That is worth knowing before anybody changes the look of an elevation.
On a solid stone wall, the finish is part of how the wall manages water. A modern impermeable coat stops the wall breathing and the moisture has to go somewhere, which is usually inwards. The right answer on an old wall is a build up that lets it out.
The newer estates
Round the village there is a good deal of newer housing, in block and brick, roughcast or rendered from new.
That is the familiar work: full re-dash where the coat has run out, repairs where it has cracked, and extensions and garages to match.
Extensions, garages and garden walls
A lot of what we are asked for in villages like this is finishing work: an extension to match, a garage that was never rendered, retaining walls round a patio.
Those are all worth doing properly rather than being left, particularly garden walls, which fail fast if the top of them is not detailed to shed water.

Questions about work in Houston
My house is in the conservation area. Does that affect what I can do?
It can affect what you are allowed to change about the appearance of a building. Check with the council's planning department before committing to a change of finish, and we will work to whatever that comes back as.
Can you match the harl on an old wall?
We can get close on the mix and the aggregate. On a historic wall the more important question is whether the build up lets the wall breathe, and that comes first.
